Lexi's Skin Conditions

Tuesday, October 25, 2011

Lexi has been having baby acne since week 3.  It's all over her tiny little face.  I am kinda expecting this cuz Nic had it when he was a baby too.  However, starting on Monday, I see a yellow crust forming on her eye brows and on the ear loop.  I am not very sure what that yellow crust is so I took Lexi to the pediatrician.  I was lucky to get an appointment within the same day.

Dr Ash told me that Lexi has two different very common baby skin conditions. One is baby acne, which needs no treatment and will eventually go away.  It will last approximately 3 months.  It won't leave any scar on her face.  When Lexi was still in my belly, she is exposed to all of my hormones.  Once she is out, the hormones stopped and she develops this acne.

The other condition is called seborrhoeic dermatitis.  If it's on the scalp, it's commonly called cradle cap.  But it started on her eyebrows.  Dr Ash explains that all I need to do is to massage some baby oil on the area before bed time.  Then, wash with a damp wash cloth the next morning.  It will help keep the area moist.  This condition will last approximately 4 months.

Gosh, 3 to 4 months!!!  Lexi won't be getting another photo shoot in a few months.  I hope her skin gets better so she will have lots and lots of cute pictures for my blog!

BTW, Lexi weighs 8lb 10oz at 4 weeks of age.  That's ONE pound and one oz since she was born!  Dr Ash wants her to gain an ounce per day though.  But she is only gaining about 3 quarter oz per day.  Eat more Lexi.  Don't be a lazy bump and just sleep all day.  You need to wake up every 3 to 3.5 hours to eat!  Mommy will be waking you if you don't wake up!
